August 2004
The energy packed Thomas and
Bernadette Chow spent
10+ non-stop hours from Portland, OR to the San Francisco Bay Area on
29
July 2004
to attend their family reunion as well as the
classmate gathering. That is after they spent the full day doing nature
walk, boating,
and fishing with
Eddie
Chan's kids and niece the day earlier.
On the next morning after a good
night rest at Kelly's, the Chow's drove off to meet their son Daren who
is attending at Stanford
University. The
Chows then went to meet their daughter Lana at
SJC who was flying in from San Diego. The Chows enjoyed their private
Bay Area
family get together
on Friday and Saturday.
On Sunday afternoon, the Chan's and
Chow's met again, this time at Kelly's place. Soon afterwards, they
were delighted to see Tong
Sin Tseun,
(he goes by "Tong") whom they had not seen for 30+ years! It
turned out Tong has been living
in the SF Bay Area since his graduate school days
at UC Berkeley. Recently Tong got in contact with Kelly, thanks to Tony
Cheung Kwok Leung's (aka "Chey
Go") in relaying the
contacts. It was
a joyful moment
for the former four F1A'ers to catch up with
things over afternoon tea and pastries, while the kids and adult
(regardless
of age) are fascinated with
various toys in the house. After a few rounds
of pastry tasting indoor and outdoor, the young(er) Chow's waved
good-bye
-- Daren headed to his
evening gathering with friend while Lana had
to catch her evening flight back to San Diego. The Chan's, Chang's, and
Tong spent the next
hour in Foster City to feed the ducks, birds,
and sea gulls.
The group enjoyed a relaxed dinner at
a Chinese
restaurant in Milbrae. It took the group more than 15mins to wave
good-bye to Tong after dinner
outside the restaurant. Saying good-bye is never
easy. The Chow's and Chan's returned to Kelly's place to continue the
chit
chat until around midnight
before wishing each other good night.
The Chow's
departed around noon to meet
their son for lunch before driving back home. They are probably
somewhere
in southern Oregon
as web page is
being composed. The Chan's are
probably on their way to the airport to catch a red-eye flight back to
Boston. The Chow's and
the Chang's urged
Eddie Chan to visit the west
coast again next summer. Until next summer ... in the meantime, it's
only
4 weeks away for
the Five Gang of
the West to meet at Hood Canal,
Washington for another round of gathering during the Labor Day weekend.
