Fall 2004 Reunion
tentative date: 3 Dec 2004
- to expand our reunion from just a dinner gathering to a weekend event.
The date was voted as best considering travel, restaurant booking,
as well as the proximate period to allow classmates residing overseas to
exchange their HK ID card. The HK ID Card Exchange period for
those born in 1954 and 1955 is tentatively to begin on 29 Nov 2004 and
end on 22 Jan 2005
tentative location: ShenHin Restaurant, on the
campus of City University of HK (same as 2002 Reunion)
- ShenHin was suggested by Simon Cheng. This location provides ample parking,
and it is within short walking distance from all public transportation
systems including MTR, KCR,bus, and taxi. Also, Simon knows the restaurant
owner well so he could negotiate a better price for the gathering
as low cost dinner is key to a successful turnout.
Dinner style: buffet
- A different dinner style than the traditional sit-down format was suggested
by Kelly Chang. All agreed the buffet format would provide better
networking
among classmates. A simple buffet menu should help bringing the per head
cost down as the gathering dinner is not a gourmet banquet.
Family members welcome
- Overseas Wah Yan alumni gathering has the tradition to invite family
members. After all, they are part of our big family.
Overseas classmates (Kelly Chang and Alfred Sham) provided inputs that
our spouses and family members were initially shy in attending Wah Yan
gatherings but later feel very comfortable. Many family members not just
attend but participate and contribute in gathering preparation,
food arrangement, and other logistics. All agreed that we should leverage
our family members expertise in social events.
Excursion: boat cruise on 4 Dec 2004, golf game
on 5 Dec 2004
- It was suggested that we should offer optional excursions to those who
prefer to continue their networking. Chartering a boat to tour the
beautiful
HK harbour and the nearby water ways can be arranged quite economically.
We and our family members can enjoy more time to acquaint new and
old ones in a relaxed atmosphere.
- Since there are so many golfers, the gathering would not be complete
without a golf meet.
Miscellaneous:
- It is believed at least half a dozen of our classmates are residing in
Australia/New Zealand. Daniel Hung said he has lost
contacts with classmates including Chow Chi Keung and Cheung Hon Wah who
immigrated to Australia in the 1980's. Daniel agrees to
provide any contacts that he come across to Simon Cheng.
- Simon suggested the recruiting task should be carried out by more than
one body -- himself. Classmates present at the planning dinner meeting
promised they would call those they know and urge them to support our reunion
in the fall.
Kelly and Simon will begin the promotion of this
bi-annual event
